Apple iBook/iMac hard drive question?
Hi, I have a G3 iBook 900MHz, with 640 megs of RAM, and a 120GB hard drive. (its a 12″) I just bought an iMac G4, 1GHz, 768Megs of RAM, and a 40GB hard drive. I have a hard drive that is compitable with the iMac, (its 160GB) and I want to switch the hard drives out. I asked a previous question about shwitching hard drives, and I will be using carbon Copy Cloner for Mac. now heres my question: I want to take all the programs that I have on my laptop (iBook G3) and put them on my iMac. (I have Photoshop, Office, and a bunch of other programs that I want to keep) is there a way I can do this, or will it get messed up because of the different specs?

If that older G3 has a firewire port, restart the old Mac, and hold down the “T” key. You should see a big firewire symbol appear on the screen, and nothing else. You just turned that Mac into a fire wire external hard drive. Hook a firewire cable between that and your new Mac, and a firewire hard drive icon will appear on the new Mac’s screen. That will be your old Mac. Just drag your stuff over from there to the new Mac.
Alternately, just reload all your apps from the discs.
